Lake Manyara

Explore the Hidden Gem of Northern Tanzania

Lake Manyara National Park is a scenic treasure nestled in northern Tanzania, just a short drive from Arusha. This compact yet diverse park is renowned for its stunning landscapes and rich wildlife, making it one of the best safari destinations in Tanzania for a short yet unforgettable adventure.

Covering two-thirds of its area is the shimmering alkaline Lake Manyara, famous for attracting vast flocks of pink flamingos—especially during the wet season (November to April), when the lake transforms into a spectacular sea of pink. Alongside flamingos, the park is a paradise for birdwatchers, home to over 400 bird species including pelicans, storks, and herons.

Beyond the lake, Lake Manyara National Park offers a mix of lush groundwater forests, grassy plains, acacia woodlands, and swamps—each providing a habitat for a wide range of wildlife. Spot majestic elephants with iconic long tusks, large herds of buffalo and zebra, playful baboons, and the park’s most iconic residents—tree-climbing lions, a rare sight that makes Lake Manyara truly unique.

Hippos lounge in the lake’s muddy shores, while giraffes roam freely through the acacia trees. Whether you’re a wildlife enthusiast, a first-time safari-goer, or a nature photographer, Lake Manyara delivers a compact safari experience packed with beauty, biodiversity, and Instagram-worthy moments.
